TAMBOR BAY
TURTLES.

A small beach. A big-hearted community.
A better chance for every little turtle.

Meet the people protecting sea turtles on the shores of Playa Tambor, Costa Rica. Their work is powered by volunteers, local connections and people who choose to help.

The beach is only the beginning

A decade of care.
A community behind it.

Tambor Bay Turtles began when concerned residents saw growing pressure on the bay’s nesting turtles. Funds were raised, a location was donated and a community conservation project took shape.

Today, the program brings together volunteers, local families, students and visiting supporters. Protecting nests and giving hatchlings a safer start goes hand in hand with helping more people care about the beach they share.

Nicole, the program’s director since July 2025, describes a project that keeps moving because people show up. She has volunteered for seven years, and now works with administrative support from her mother, Yvette, and a growing network of local supporters.

Small actions. Real support.

There is a way for you to help.

Nicole tells us the program receives no government funding. Its operating budget is raised by volunteers. Giving, sharing or starting a conversation can help keep the work moving.
