Raster images, resolution, and export files — Q&A + FAQ
Avoid blurry originals, bad exports, missing assets and inaccurate vector conversions.
Does changing a JPEG from 72 DPI to 300 DPI improve its quality?
No. Updating the resolution metadata does not create additional image detail. What matters is the image's real pixel dimensions and how large those pixels will be printed. A higher-quality original or careful recreation may be necessary.
Why does my artwork look sharp on my phone but blurry at 12 inches?
Phones display the image at a relatively small physical size. When the same pixels cover a large print, edges and compression artifacts become easier to see. Review the file at the intended print size before placing a large-format order.
Can a transparent PNG still have a faint white halo around the artwork?
Yes. Some exported edges contain partially transparent pixels blended with a white background. The halo can become visible on darker material or after color changes. Clean the edge pixels or export from the original layered art.
Why does a JPEG logo show a white box around it?
JPEG does not support true transparency. A white area may have been flattened into the image. Use a transparent PNG or a suitable vector file if the background should be removed, and confirm the physical sticker material separately.
Should I save a sticker-sheet file with separate print and cut layers?
Yes. Distinct layers help prevent cutlines from accidentally printing and make it easier to verify each peelable shape. Give layers clear names and include a preview showing the expected sheet.
What causes a fuzzy edge around tiny printed text?
Small text can suffer from insufficient source resolution, very thin type, anti-aliasing, or a difficult print scale. A true vector type source or thicker lettering often helps. Review the text at its actual physical height.
Can I send artwork from Canva for printing?
Yes, if you export at suitable quality and size. A high-quality PDF or PNG may work for printed stickers. For precise single-color decal cuts or complex sheet cutlines, an editable vector setup may still be required.
How do I avoid a missing image when exporting from Photoshop?
Use the original saved file with all relevant layers and linked smart objects available. Export a flattened preview for reference, then confirm that the printable artwork and transparency appear correctly in the final submitted file.
Is an SVG from an automatic converter always safe to cut?
No. Automatic tracing may create thousands of nodes, overlapping paths, stray specks, or unclosed outlines. A cut-ready vector needs clean shapes, meaningful counters, and practical stroke widths at the finished size.
Why should I keep a separate master file after resizing artwork?
Repeatedly resizing and saving over a single raster file can reduce quality or lose editing information. Keep the highest-quality original, then export versions for each ordered size while preserving the artwork's aspect ratio.
